Kantha are traditionally created using vintage saris which are stitched together in multiple layers using fine hand stitching (called “kantha” stitching). Today, vintage fabric is also used to create these stunning blankets.
Each kantha is unique in design, stitching pattern, softness and thickness. The finest kantha are found on the Bengalese border, and thus are also known as Bengali blankets.
shenouk hand selects each kantha personally in India looking for fluid all over patterns (versus patchwork), high quality stitching (the finer the better), and beautiful design. Each is truly unique and can be a treasured piece of ones home--with endless uses for the years to come. Given the vintage aspect of the fabrics involved, there can be slight imperfections but that is indeed part of the kantha's overall charm.
Ideal at the foot of a bed, a throw for a sofa, warming outside in the evening chill... and countless other uses.
Most kantha approximate the size of a single bedcover but variations in exact size are to be expected.
